6 Tips to Keep Your Farm ASF-Free

ASF, or African swine fever, is a devastating disease for pig farms. It is a highly contagious disease that can kill pigs quickly. ASF cannot spread to humans or other animals, but humans are the main carriers of the disease. Here are some tips to help you keep your farm ASF-free:

Choose healthy and strong pigs: Choose pigs with strong immune systems and good health. Choose pigs from sources that are free of ASF outbreaks and monitor for outbreaks in your area.

Measures for the movement of pigs: Limit the movement of pigs from areas at risk of ASF outbreaks and provide safe channels for the movement of pigs, such as using vehicles that have not been in contact with pigs in at-risk areas.

Cleanliness and hygiene in the farm: Keep your farm clean by cleaning and disinfecting areas that come into contact with pigs, such as cleaning equipment, farm components, and general cleaning in the farm.

Measures to control insects and disease-carrying animals: Check and control access by insects that may be carriers of ASF and animals that are at risk of bringing the disease into the farm. Use measures to prevent insects and disease-carrying animals, such as using bird spikes or monitoring and controlling contact with wild animals.

Control of the import of pigs and products from at-risk areas: Comply with the requirements and regulations governing the import of pigs and pig products, including controlling imports from areas with ASF outbreaks.

Education and training: Provide education and training for farm workers and relevant farmers about ASF and disease prevention measures to increase understanding and proper implementation of the measures.
